Dr. ABhishek Bhardwaj

Founding Physician

Dr. Bhardwaj attended Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India and trained in Internal Medicine at Drexel University, Mercy Catholic Medical Center, Philadelphia, USA. After IM residency, he joined the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Philadelphia, USA as a Critical Care Hospitalist where he simultaneously pursued a Resuscitation Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Resuscitation Science under the mentorship of Dr. Benjamin Abella. He subsequently trained at the Cleveland Clinic, OH, USA for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and simultaneously pursued a MS in Clinic Research at Case Western Reserve University.

 

Dr. Bhardwaj loves providing personalized and empathetic care to his patients. He is a strong advocate for Humanism in Medicine and empowers patients and families in his care to expect nothing but clinical excellence and clear communication. He believes in kindness,

empathy and caring for the team as well. For his compassionate care and professionalism during his internal medicine residency, Dr. Bhardwaj received the American College of Physician Exemplar of Professionalism Award. Similarly, during his fellowship, he was awarded the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Clinical Excellence Awards in 2021 and 2022. In addition, he received multiple Caregiver Celebrations Awards for teamwork, empathy, and patient care at the Cleveland Clinic. He enjoys teaching medical students and trainees and was nominated for the Teaching Fellow of the Year during his first year of fellowship and again during his second year when he received the Cleveland Clinic Teaching Fellow of the Year. Dr. Bhardwaj was also nominated for the national ACGME David C Leech award by the GME of Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Bhardwaj is the Director of Critical Care Medicine at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, Riverside and the Block Director for the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine. 

Dr. Bhardwaj has more than fifty peer reviewed publications in high impact journals including Resuscitation, Critical Care Medicine, and Annals of Internal Medicine. His primary research focus is on outcome of cardiac arrest and pulmonary vascular disease. He continues to present his work at international meetings including CHEST, SCCM, ATS and AHA. He is an invited speaker for grand rounds at multiple institutes. He has received the prestigious American Heart Association Young Investigator Award in 2017 for his work in cardiac arrest during his Resuscitation Fellowship at University of Pennsylvania and the American Thoracic Society Quad Chapter Best Research Project Award in 2021 for his pulmonary vascular disease research. He is an Editor for the USMLE Step 2 CK book, one of the most popular USMLE preparatory book for medical students internationally. He is also an Editor for the ScholarRX team.Dr. Bhardwaj has held several leadership roles throughout his career. He is the Medical Director of Critical Care Medicine at Memorial Care Orange Coast Medical Center. He is the chair for the international Society of Critical Care Medicine in-training section. He is the Podcast Host of the American Colleges of Chest Physicians Humanities Section. He is the past Chair of the Society of Critical Care Medicine Ohio chapter communication committee and received the Outstanding Member Award for his contribution to the SCCM Ohio Chapter. During fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, he was elected as the President of the House Staff Association. He started and hosts the Vital Capacity podcast. Prior to his fellowship, he was the Director of MICU Hospitalist Operations at University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and served as the Chair of Targeted Temperature Management Subcommittee of Penn Medicine Critical Care Committee. Outside of work, he enjoys taking his two young kids to the beach frequently and aims to never miss a sunset with his family. He loves travelling, flying his drone, and creating drone videos.
